Programme
The Cornwall Workshop is a weeklong intensive residential workshop for artists, curators and writers, organised by CAST and hosted by Kestle Barton on the Lizard peninsula. It provides a space for discussion, debate and the sharing of ideas and encourages critical feedback and collaboration.
The eighth workshop will take place from 13 to 20 March 2026 and will be led by Norwegian artist Ane Hjort Guttu, whose work has been widely exhibited internationally. Ane works in a variety of media but has in recent years mainly concentrated on film and video works, ranging from investigative documentary to poetic fiction. Among recurrent themes are the relationship between freedom and power, the economy and public space, social change and the limits of action. Guttu is also a writer and curator and a professor at the National Academy of the Arts, Oslo. An anthology of her written works was published in 2018 and another book is forthcoming.
The workshop aims to look into methodologies of learning and teaching within the arts, the current status of art education, and the processes involved in mentoring, whether of students or of fellow artists. It will involve reading and writing as well as looking and listening, and requires an interest among the participants in getting to know other artists´ work as well as sharing your own. As in previous workshops, the week will also include walks, talks, screenings, communal meals and conversation.
